What Manny Pacquiao Has Become

Last Saturday 13th of November, 2010 Manny Pacquiao has cemented himself as the greatest boxer, fighter ever in the world of boxing. Dallas Texas cowboy stadium, the thousands people inside it and the millions watching around the world witnessed the superb physical attributes of the Pacman. The massacre of Antonio Margarito started from the sound ding until the 12th round for vacant junior welterweight championship.

Months before scheduled and during the hype of the fight speculations were worrying for Pacquiao but, as the event drawing near the confidence from team Pacquiao emerged with boldness and authority and was displayed in the ring on fight night. Margarito was simply out manuevered , out smarted, out lasted, out boxed. Pacquiao was just too fast and too strong for the Mexican which did not surprise me in any fashion whatsoever. On the other hand I was surprised with Margarito's determination to redeem himself from a disgraceful hand wrap scandal. He kept on moving forward, putting pressure on Pacquiao hoping he can trap him on the rope and unleash his barrage of body shots to disable the pride of the Philippines. But again just like the previous opponents of Pacquiao who failed, Margarito succumbed to the same fate and wasn't winning a single round of the fight. In the second half of the fight, Pacquiao's power and staggering stamina was just starting in 3rd gear, Margarito's right eye looks like a beaten tacos, about to pop any moment.

In the 12th round, I was personally frustrated during the fight, I wanted Manny to beat the hell of Margarito until he drops dead, during HBO Pacquiao-Margarito 24/7 the Margarito team acted like imbeciles, ridiculing Manny Pacquiao himself. But, once again Pacquiao surprised me and the world, he showed mercy and sportsmanship in the highest level, he just played Margarito and let him finished the 12 rounds without hurting the Mexican further. That night----- that was not the Manny Pacquiao I knew since 1995, not the brutal, barbaric Pacquiao that just want to kill any boxer in front of him in the ring. This is a new Pacquiao (I murmured), true indeed, new facets of Manny that I did not see as a boxing fan. A matured, polished, classy, intelligent, and truly a man with an enormous heart inside or outside the ring.

I wasn't sure if that was the congressman Manny Pacquiao having influence on the boxer/fighter Pacquiao that night, one thing for sure Manny has become something in that fight night....... Not only the first boxer to win 8 titles in 8 weight classes, not only the boxer that single handedly carried the reputation of boxing as a sports, but a person that otherwise respect his opponent even in victory and showed that though a boxer, not a killer. That for me is what Manny Pacquiao has become over the years. Congratulations Manny and family, Philippines and to those who love boxing. - Posted from my iPhone
